Release notes

What we fixed and added in each version. On macOS and Windows the app updates itself; on Linux you get a notice and download the new version from this site.

0.3.0-beta.8.2

· Windows

  • To stop wrong letters from appearing in Hancom 한글, Catchtype is off in Hancom Office for now (you can turn it back on from the menu).
  • Fixed in-app updates that stopped on some Windows PCs after the October Windows update.

Common

  • Letters a correction keeps are no longer deleted and typed again, so corrected words flash less (turning slackdp into slack에 used to delete and retype slack too).
  • English names with a Korean word glued on now keep the name (figma시안 became 랴흠시안, and slack봇 became 님차봇).
  • A Korean word with an English abbreviation or word glued on is now split correctly (실GPU stayed tlfGPU, and 첫commit부터 became cjtcommit부터).
  • 중, 좀, 각, 끝 and 했어ㅠㅠ glued right after an English word now stay Korean (deploy중 기다려 stayed deploywnd 기다려, and push했어ㅠㅠ stayed pushgoTdjbb).
  • Particles typed with a space after English names and abbreviations now stay Korean (claude 는 became claude sms, and slack 도 became slack eh). After choosing English with the 한/영 key, a spaced 도 or 는 also turns Korean when Korean follows.
  • Common loanwords typed in the English state (챌린지, 스낵, 숏컷) now come out right. In the Korean state, airbnb and tossbank stay English, and ㅠ_ㅠ and ㅎ_ㅎ stay as typed.

Windows

  • Coming back from an app where Catchtype is off, or switching windows, no longer turns the Korean state into English, so jamo emoticons such as ㅇㅅㅇ no longer come out as dtd.
  • In windows that ignore keys sent by other programs, such as Remote Desktop, Shift or Ctrl no longer stays held down.
  • Fixed a rare case where, when typing fast, a correction removed the letter just before it (API를 came out as APㄹ를).
  • After a silent upgrade with the installer, such as through winget, Catchtype now starts again instead of staying closed.
  • The app icon now uses the new Catchtype logo (the 가/A in the notification area stays the same). The feedback window now follows the app's language.

macOS

  • Catchtype is off from the start in iPhone Mirroring, scrcpy, remote desktop and virtual machine apps, so keys no longer all arrive as a (ㅁ). You can turn it back on from the menu.
  • The on/off shortcut now works while such a window is in front.
  • Alfred, Raycast and LaunchBar now start in the input source they pick (Alfred's Force Keyboard setting was ignored).
  • Add a word that stayed as typed to Always Convert on the Learned Words page in Settings, and from then on it changes to the other language whenever you type it with spaces around it.
  • If you turned off any apps, "N Apps Turned Off…" in the menu shows them so you can turn them back on.

Linux

  • Gets the fixes above. Installing and update notices are the same as in 0.3.0-beta.8.

Common

  • English names with a Korean word glued on now keep the name (figma시안 became 랴흠시안, and slack봇 became 님차봇).

macOS

  • In email fields on web pages that use WebKit, such as Safari, Catchtype pauses and keys go in as typed (#31).
  • When the 한/영 key undoes a change, the text that came back shows next to the cursor for a moment. After a space, press it twice quickly to undo.

0.3.0-beta.7.3

· macOS

  • Fixed Space and similar keys looking held down in apps that check key state directly, such as Photoshop. Keys Catchtype sends again after a fix (Space, comma, period, Return and others) were left down; each one is now released right away.
  • When this version starts after the update, it also releases any key that was left down.
  • If you use 0.3.0-beta.4 or later, the app offers this version and updates itself. You can also choose 업데이트 확인… (Check for Updates) in the menu.

0.3.0-beta.7.2

· Windows

  • An installer. Open the downloaded file to install it, and click Finish on the last screen to start Catchtype right away. To remove it, go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps; it asks whether to delete your settings and learned words too.
  • If you used the zip, open the installer and keep going with your settings and learned words.
  • After installing, new versions still update inside the app.

  • Fixed doubled letters on the first fix in a freshly opened Edge (알겠어 became 아알겠어).

  • macOS: A settings window. Open Catchtype again or choose "설정…" (Settings, ⌘,) in the menu.
  • macOS: The first time it opens, a guide card in the settings window walks you through Accessibility permission, the ABC keyboard and a quick try.
  • Far fewer wrong changes when you mix Korean with English abbreviations and developer terms (gpt한테 became 헷한테, x축은 became xcnr은, and db in db 다시 띄워 became 유).
  • What you type inside email addresses, URLs and @handles stays as typed (rlfehd99@daum.net became 길동99@daum.net).
  • macOS: If the input source is the macOS Korean 2-Set keyboard when Catchtype starts, it switches to ABC and keeps your Korean state. If you turn off '자동 한/영 변환' (automatic switching), it stays off until you turn it back on.
  • Windows: The zip unpacks into a single Catchtype folder. The first time it opens, it adds itself to the Start menu and asks once whether to open at login.
  • Windows: The notification area icon is now a filled square, so it no longer looks like the Windows input indicator.
  • Windows: Punctuation typed with Shift, like ? and !, no longer turns into / and 1 when the word before it is fixed (#5).
  • macOS and Windows: "피드백 보내기…" (send feedback) can attach photos (up to 3) and a text file. A debug log is attached only if you choose it, after you see what it contains.
  • Windows: If you use 0.3.0-beta.6.1, the app offers this version and updates in place.

0.3.0-beta.6.1

· Windows

  • Less flicker while Catchtype fixes a word (#2). When a whole word is replaced, the half-erased text no longer shows in Windows Terminal and shows far less in Edge fields.
  • In-app updates. From the next version, click the new-version notice or '새 버전 … 받기…' at the top of the menu: Catchtype checks the download's signature, replaces itself and restarts. Your settings and learned words stay. Please install this version by hand once.

  • macOS and Windows: Catchtype starts off in drawing, video and 3D apps such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Blender, where single-letter shortcuts (V, B, M…) did not work. To use it there, uncheck "<app>에서 끄기" (turn off in <app>) in the menu.
  • Windows: fixed spaces landing after the next letter when another keyboard program runs alongside (야 지금 became 야ㅈ ㅣ금).
  • Windows: Catchtype rests where keys do not go to a text field, such as a game screen, and the menu and the notification area icon say why. For a game it does not catch, use "<app>에서 끄기" in the menu.
  • macOS and Windows: fixed a leftover first letter caused by address bar autocomplete (ㅑinstagram).
  • Laughing jamo typed in Korean mode, such as ㅎㅋㅎ and ㅋㅎㅋㅎ, are no longer turned into English.
  • Abbreviations typed in English mode no longer turn into broken Korean (rmse used to become 근ㄷ).
  • The menu has "피드백 보내기…" (send feedback). "새 버전 확인" (check for new versions) is now "하루 한 번 자동으로 확인" (check automatically once a day).
  • macOS: switching with 한/영 briefly shows 가/A next to the cursor. You can turn this off in the menu.

  • Deleting a typo with ⌫ and typing it again no longer breaks the word (그냥 used to become 그sid).
  • Fewer wrong changes, especially in text typed into AI coding tools.
  • Typos made in Korean mode stay as typed instead of turning into English.
  • Typos in English words inside English sentences no longer turn into broken Korean.
  • Words attached to English or numbers, such as 85ms로 and slack에서, are kept right.
  • macOS: a newly opened terminal is no longer mistaken for a password prompt.
  • Windows: PowerShell in Windows Terminal no longer types the same letter twice.

  • Fewer wrong changes.
  • Words starting with a double consonant, such as 꿈 and 쌤, are much less often left as English letters.
  • Turn Catchtype on and off with ⌃⌥W (Ctrl+Alt+W on Windows and Linux) without opening the menu. You can change the shortcut in the menu.
  • A word changed while typing can also be undone by pressing 한/영 twice quickly after a space.
  • macOS: the app updates itself. It downloads only when you choose to and installs only signed files.
  • macOS: when another app holds secure input and keys cannot reach Catchtype, the menu bar and menu say why and how to fix it.
  • Windows: undoing no longer types @ in PowerShell.

  • Early betas for Windows and Linux.
  • Far fewer wrong changes.
  • Korean and English typed together, such as 사용자ID and 로그인API, are split and changed correctly.
  • Words mixing numbers or names, such as 2018년 and handle_click, are left as typed.
  • Undo a change with 한/영; after the same word is undone three times, it is not changed again.
  • You get a notice when a new version is out.
  • With a keyboard layout it does not know, it steps aside and takes over again when you switch back.

· macOS

  • The first beta. It fixes Korean typed in English mode and English typed in Korean mode as you type, and switches the input state for you.
  • English words with Korean particles, such as AI로 and deploy했는데, are split correctly, while code such as v2 and build.sh is left alone.
  • You can turn it off for single apps, and it leaves password entry alone.
